August 11 Common SenseJudge Matthew F. Kennelly, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, handed down a permanent injunction halting the implementation of the new anti-video game law and ordered the state to pay the ESA their attorney fees. “If controlling access to allegedly 'dangerous' speech is important in promoting the positive psychological development of children, in our society that role is properly accorded to parents and families, not the State."
I can’t wait for a round of attacks from the right against this “activist judge”.
Blu-Ray GoodnessI know it's usually expensive to be an early adopter, but damn... link Those prices are...well..is it really worth it??? Oh yeah...and as the 'toid points out...the drives suck too. Only $1300! August 10 Proof: My fellow Americans are f*&%ing stupidThis is just utterly amazing. I can't believe the sheer amount of stupid people that live in this country. Is it gullibility? Is it really fundamentalism? "A comparison of peoples' views in 34 countries finds that the United States ranks near the bottom when it comes to public acceptance of evolution. Only Turkey ranked lower." Link! "“American Protestantism is more fundamentalist than anybody except perhaps the Islamic fundamentalist, which is why Turkey and we are so close,” said study co-author Jon Miller of Michigan State University." Hit that link, and if it doesn't want to make you want to vomit, something is wrong. This should be a wake up call to anyone who doesn't think that the conservative minority in this country has too much sway...over the government...over the media...over the educational system... This sh*it makes me want to puke. Security? From my comment on kotaku regarding the stream of comments stemming from an article talking about the banning of electronics on airplanes. Link There has to be the realization that sooner or later "safety concerns" or steps taken to improve "safety" will reach the point where it is no longer worth it. By that, I mean the casual, not business traveller. There is a point where people will eventually say "Screw it. Air travel isn't worth the hassle." I mean, let's face it. If a person is willing to die to take other with him or her, sooner or later , they will succeed. After Reid tried lighting his shoes on fire, they took away lighters, but not matches. After 9/11, no more edges (at least for a while), but they still served drinks in glasses and used metal utensils in first class. If a guy were to, say...swallow a package containing an explosive, plan on crapping it out in flight and using that...does that mean the next step will be full bowel clearing enemas and stomach pumping of each passenger before each flight??? There's got to be a line...and the way things are moving, we'll find that line soon enough. Something Good This Way Cometh...Watched a pair of NBC pilots last night: "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Kidnapped". Studio 60 was excellent. If the series fulfills the promise of the pilot, it may well be the best show on TV. Then again, I am and have always been a fan of Aaron Sorkin and I feel that TV is better with him on it. The pilot makes a not so subtle attack on the degenerating quality of network television. I would highly doubt that anyone with half a functioning brain can't help but agree with that. The show is a behind-the-scenes look at a SNL-type show...which is a description that doesn't do this show justice. You owe it to yourself to see this when it airs. As for Kidnapped...it was interesting...good. But I'll withhold any further comment until a few more episodes. It has a very 24-like feel with one case taking up the entire season. It has promise, but Studio 60 joins My Name is Earl and Scrubs as something that is once again "must see" on NBC. August 04 Stupid Meeting SchedulesWhy on earth would you schedule a recurring five-hour long meeting for Friday afternoon?????? August 02 My Company Conference......in Phoenix...at the end of July...alright, who came up with that bright idea??? As hot as it is all over the country right now, I was surprised that it only broke 100 once the whole time I was in Phoenix. I was also surprised at how muggy it was. Monsoon, so they say. Well, conference is over. My God, let no one doubt the drinking abilities of engineers. Day 1: Best round of golf...ever. Haven't played in 18 months. Best previous score was around 110, and that omitted a number of backyard-bound shots, water shots, etc. etc. Rented clubs. Hot as hell. 95! WOO HOO! It's all about using rented wood and someone else's balls. to be continued...when I'm bored... |
